Wikström is a poker playing travelling salesman, who decides to buy a shabby restaurant. Meanwhile, Syrian refugee Khaled has just arrived in Finland and finds himself eventually working in Wikström‘s restaurant and an uneasy friendship starts to form. The film will be screened at Bíó Paradís after the festival.

The Other Side of Hope is the opening film of Stockfish Film Festival.

The director, Aki Kaurismäki, won the Berlin International Film Festival's Silver Bear for best director.
