Li Xuelian and her husband divorce for practical reasons, to gain better property, with the intention of re-marrying later. But after the divorce her husband has an affair and Li feels swindled and decided to take legal action. Li will fight the legal system for years, annoying higher officials within the bureaucracy. Yet the real reason behind her struggle remains hidden.

The film won the Golden Shell, San Sebastian Film Festival’s main award, for Best Film. Leading actress Bingbing Fan also won the Best Actress award.
