Icare is a nine year old boy who is always called Courgette. His mother is an alcoholic and he befriends police officer Raymond, but is eventually sent to an orphanage where at first he is bullied – but later earns respect and even friendship in this stop-motion animated film.

The film is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It was also one of nine films shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards, but didn’t get nominated in that category – but no film has been nominated yet in both categories.
