The Wacken Metal Battle will be fought at the glorious live venue Húrra, on Saturday 6. May

Headliner: AUÐN.

This year 6 bands will compete in the battle for the main prize: Representing Iceland this summer at the Wacken Metal Battle finals at the Wacken Open Air , the world's biggest heavy metal festival, along with 29 other nations. The winner of the Icelandic preselection will be chosen by an international jury, along with votes from the audience.

Rounding off the night is a special guest appearance by last years winning band AUÐN, who took full advantage of participating in the Battle. After snatching 3rd place at the finals at Wacken 2016, they signed a worldwide record deal with industry leading metal label Season of Mist. Following that, the band got booked to play numerous gigs outside of their home country, most recently playing thundering sets at both Inferno Festival in Norway and Roadburn Festival in The Netherlands in April, with an upcoming concert at Northern Europe’s biggest music festival, Roskilde Festival in Denmark this summer. A band truly on the rise.

Auðn will play a set akin to their blistering sets at Inferno and Roadburn to allow Icelandic audience to see what all the fuss is about them.

Opening the night, another special guest will perform, old school death metallers NARTHRAAL. This band participated in the contest back in 2015 and have since come a long way. They recently signed a deal with Finnish label Inverse Records, who will release the band’s debut LP, Screaming From The Grave, end of May.

The audience will also have some voting power, so it is important to show up early and support your favorites. Voting ballots will be handed out at the entrance.
