Event info

The Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra's annual Christmas concert is one of main events for many to set themselves into the Christmas spirit. The program, as always, is composed of music of the baroque era, which creates a festive holiday atmosphere. At this year's concert we hear Iceland's well known Kristinn Sigmundsson sing with the Chamber Orchestra and one of the worlds finest harpsichordist's, Jory Vinikour, will be conducting the concert and performing the C.P.E. Bach Harpsichord Concerto in d minor. Kristinn Sigmundsson will sing arias from cantata no. 8 and the Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach, and "The trumpet shall sound" from The Messiah by Händel. Kristinn has performed at the largest opera and concert halls in the world such as The Metropolitan Opera, La Scala. This year he was honored with an honorary award for his contribution to music at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Jory Vinikour has played in concerts all over the world and is well known to the Icelandic audience. In writing of Jory's last visit to Iceland, Sigriður Björnsdóttir writes in DV: "Vinikours visit here is a great musical event. He plays as effortlessly on the harpsichord as others breathe and with such musicality as never before been heard here". Jory was the first prize winner in the International Harpsichord Competition Warsaw and the Prague Spring Festival. Jory and Kristinn met at the Paris Opera where they performed along with Anne Sophie Von Otter in Händel's Ariodante conducted by Marc Minkowski.
