With the Danish National Vocal Ensemble and the Danish Radio Big Band, Eivør interprets a musical drama with deep roots in the Faroese legend of the transformation of the Seal Woman, the sea, love - and the yearning for freedom.

The singer and songwriter Eivør Pálsdóttir and the composer Peter Jensen have together written a retelling and musical interpretation of the Faroese Legend of the Seal Woman; it is abstract but also highly empathetic. A tale with action and a moral presented in an exciting musical setting with samples of both natural sounds and hymns by Thomas Kingo resonating in the background. The Legend of the Seal Woman has been specifically composed and arranged for the Danish Radio Big Band and the Danish National Vocal Ensemble.

Conductor: Geir Lysne
Music and words: Eivør Pálsdóttir, Peter Jensen and Marjun S. Kjelnæs

When the work was premiered in November 2014 a reviewer wrote:

"As soon as the first notes were struck, the listener was transported to the untamed roaring of the sea around rocky Nordic coasts, and with Eivør's characterful song and powerfully present stage perfor¬mance one was not in doubt for a single second that she had just risen from the sea as the Seal Woman of the legend."
