Violinist Hulda Jónsdóttir and pianist Jane Ade Sutarjo met while studying at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and have performed together regularly since 2011. They will be performing a program consisting of two sonatas by W.A. Mozart, Duo Concertant by Igor Stravinsky and the second sonata by Sergei Prokofiev. The juxtaposition of sonatas written by the king of classical music against two works composed in Russia between World Wars may at first glance seem arbitrary but upon closer inspection there is distinct commonality. Neoclassicism was the artistic answer to the unrestrained and overwhelming emotionalism of late-romantic period. In an effort to find a fresh breeze composer sought inspiration in the values of classicism: order, balance, clarity and economy
