Each year the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Iceland Academy of the Arts sponsor a competition for young soloists. The competition is open to students at the collegiate level, irrespective of which school they attend, and the winners perform a solo with the ISO. The conductor is Daniel Raiskin, who also conducts this year's Iceland Symphony Youth Orchestra concert – a natural choice, given his skill at working with young musicians.

The Iceland Symphony and the Iceland Academy of the Arts join forces to support our most talented young performers on their path towards the world of professional musicianship. This concert is eagerly anticipated every year, and the atmosphere at the concert is nothing short of magical. The competition was held in autumn 2017, and the winners are Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir, Ásta Kristín Pjetursdóttir, Guðmundur Andri Ólafsson and Romain Þór Denuit.
